MUSIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES - Grade 4
The Student:

Standard 1: sings alone or with others a varied repertoire of music.
* Sings with appropriate tone, pitch, dynamics, and rhythm alone or with accompaniment.+

* Sings and signs pentachord, including Fa.+

* Sings a variety of partner songs, descants, three-part rounds, and counter-melodies.

Standard 2: performs on instruments alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
* Performs rhythmic, melodic and chordal patterns on classroom instruments.+

* Identifies and perform I-V chords on autoharp and/or pitched instruments.

* Demonstrates the ability to play/read notes G, A, B, C, D on the recorder.

* Performs a variety of pitched and non-pitched instrumental accompaniments.

* Performs using expressive elements in tempo and dynamics with speech, song, movement, and instruments.

Standard 3: Improvises melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
* Improvise questions and answers on the recorder, pitched and non-pitched instruments, using pentatonic scales.+

* Create rondo and canon through moving, speaking, or singing.

* Create and perform two-part speech ensembles with simple ostinato and body percussion.

Standard 4: Composes music within specified guidelines.
* Composes short pieces within specific guidelines.+

* Enhance stories, rhymes, and fables with original accompaniments on instruments along with movement, speech , and chants.

Standard 5: Reads and Notates music.
* Uses standard symbols to read and notate rhythm: dotted half and dotted quarter notes.+

* Uses standard symbols to read and notate pitch: Fa+

* Uses standard time signature for 2/4, 4/4, and 3/4.

* Distinguish between tie and slur.

* Notates rhythms with stem up and stem down.

* Identifies sharps and flats.

* Uses proper names for rhythm note names and absolute pitch names.

* Uses the Treble Clef to notate and read G, A, B, C, D on the recorder.

Standard 6: Listens, analyzes, evaluates, and describes music.
* Understands and use music vocabulary: body, introduction, interlude, coda, D.S. al fine.

* Identifies and perform songs in common and cut time, and triple meter signature (3/4.

* Identifies major and minor tonalities in songs.

* Identifies the differences in vocal registers.

* Responds through movement to selected music: waltzes and dances in triple & duple meter.

* Identifies Do Clef and Treble Clef for placement of pitch on staff.

* Analyzes own performance and that of others.

Standard 7: Explores various cultures through the study of music and music history.
* Understands the role of music in various settings and cultures.+

* Demonstrates correct playing technique on soprano recorder.

* Performs, listens and studies a wide variety of songs including singing games, and cumulative, patriotic, seasonal, simple two-part rounds, call and response, spirituals, canons/rounds, ballads, and folk songs, and hymns from various cultures.

* Classifies orchestral and band instruments by family. Recognizes Woodwind, Brass & String instruments.
