Friday  Early Dismissal -  Just a reminder that we will be having an early dismissal this Friday,  November 20th, a t 11:30.  There will be NO busing at dismissal time.  This will allow families to attend the State Football game in the afternoon at the Unidome.  Students may wear jeans and a Newman shirt/sweatshirt. Go Knights!!!

Family Advent Wreath Making Event:  THIS SUNDAY NOV. 22nd: A Family Advent Wreath Making Event: The 6th grade Newman Girl Scouts (Troop 20046) are hosting a Family Advent Wreath Making activity.  The event will be held in the St. Joe's Church basement from 1-3 pm on Sunday, November 22nd. This is a faith building family event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Cost is $10.00.  Cookies, drinks, and materials for assembling the wreaths will be provided.You will go home with your wreath, including the candles REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND, WE HAVE SPACE AVAILABLE!!!  .

Christmas Concerts -  We’d like to remind you about a few schedule changes for our upcoming Christmas Concerts, they are as follows:  All concerts will be held in the Newman High School Auditorium.
High School – Sunday, December 6, at 5:00 PM
Middle School (6-8) – Wednesday, December 9, at 7:00 PM
Elementary  and 5th Grade Band – Thursday, December 10, at 7:00 PM

Teacher's Christmas Party:  The time has come to show our teachers and staff at Newman how much we love them.  We are currently starting to plan their Christmas Party.  A sign up sheet was at Registration, if you signed up there, we will call you, however, if you missed it, and would like to contribute (either with a gift donation or food/drink), please give Vickie Lau a call at 424-8891. The gathering will be on December 16th, 3:30-5:30 ish at the St. Joseph's Parish Center.  We will also need a few people to help with set up, and clean up.  Thank you.

Christmas Cards -  In the office we have for purchase the  “Zambia Project”  greeting cards.  There are 10 cards, designed by our own children,  for sale for only  $12.00 a pack.

SCRIP NEWS:   Friday, November 20, is a SCRIP jean day for the Middle School.  With the  early dismissal we will do our best to get all orders sent home the same day.

Thank you to our new volunteers for helping with our SCRIP program.

The National Order will be placed on Friday, November 20 for delivery on Tuesday, November 24 due to the Thanksgiving break.

    The Mason City B. Dalton will be closing after the first of the year.   B.Dalton/Barnes & Noble gift cards can be used at their other locations.    
    ** Visa Gift cards are part of the Great Lakes SCRIP program.  They come in  $25, $50 & $100 denominations with             a 2% contribution.  They can be used wherever Visa is accepted.  
    **  Hardees has joined the National SCRIP program with $10 card and a  8% contribution.           
    **  iTunes is now available in a $25 card as well as the $15.

STUDENT ABSENCES -  Parents - When your child is absent and you request homework,   please do so in the morning when you call in the absence.  We will do our best to get assignments collected, The earlier you call the more time a teacher has to organize work.  Please remember to send a note with your child if they have been absent or have an appointment.

The annual Newman Alumni Basketball Tournament will be held in the Newman High School gyms on Saturday, December 26.  Cost to enter is $20 per player.  Call Dan Verstegen (424-5606) or Brian Fausnaugh (512-5544) with questions or to pre-register.

Newman Knight Merchandise -  The Newman Booster Club is offering a variety of Newman Knight Merchandise to be ordered.  Order forms were sent home with the youngest in the family.  If you would like to see one,  flyers and order forms are available in the school offices.  Orders need to be turned in by Friday,  November 13th.  Items will be available for pick-up on December 19.  If you have any questions,  feel free to contact Karen Forthmann at 425-5506.

65% Tax Credit -   If you file an Iowa state income tax return you can contribute to the Our Faith, Our Children, Our Future School Tuition Organization and receive a 65% tax credit. That means for every $100 you donate, you receive an Iowa income tax credit of $65, plus the entire amount of the gift is eligible for federal deductibility. Donations of any size are accepted and appreciated. All donations must be postmarked by December 31st in order to qualify for the tax credit in 2009.  No student should be denied a Catholic education because of the inability to pay. Keep Lunch Balances Current!  Lunch balances can be checked through the Power School Lunch Program. All parents were given passwords and user names at registration.  The program will automatically e-mail you when you have a balance under $5. If you feel you might qualify for free or reduced lunch or have any questions or concerns please contact the office, 423-6939.


Keep Collecting those Collectables -      We collect and recycle: 
*  General Mills Box Tops  (you can put on collection sheets or just turn in)              

*  Empty Ink Cartridges
*  Campbell Soup Labels   (UPC Code with little Campbell guy)          

*  Old Cell Phones
*  Pop  Tabs   (Like McDonald’s collects for Ronald McDonald Houses)       

*  Kemp’s Milk Caps
